I’m feeling particularly country-hippie-urban-nomad-faery-mama lately.
And it is coming out in my wardrobe.
I’ve been living in my hooded sweater.
My hippie bag goes with me everywhere.
Wishing I was here.
Here.
And here.

I fell in love with the tide. He came in. He went out. I waited about.
“You know I can’t stay…” he replied when I inquired how long. “Just go with the flow…”
“But I am a rock,” I protested, “I don’t flow.”
“But you could rock’n'roll.” He waved “good-bye” as he sailed out again.

Those one-liners kept me anchored and over the years his waves wore me down.
I became small and soft.
A little round in the middle.
We were opposites but I knew we fit together somehow.
I felt particularly weary late one windy day.
I caught my reflection in a calm pool that seemed very out of place on my beach.
To my surprise I didn’t look like me at all.
Once a proud, jagged precipice, I was now something much smaller.
I felt at risk.
And the very next day, my fear was realized.
A couple came and spread a blanket across the sands of my beach.
They ate from the same dish, drank from the same bottle.
They kissed in the sunlight.
The boy scooped me up in his hand.
Years ago, he wouldn’t have been able to lift me. I was so sharp and heavy.
But now I felt at ease in his palm. I noticed his skin was callused. Maybe he built things with those hands.
He presented me to the girl.
“Here. Keep this. Remember this day. The day we were friends.”
She accepted me with a sad-happy face and tucked me into the pocket of her jacket.
It was time to go Home.

The kids were following me around the thrift store saying, “Disney princess!”

I dyed my hair again. This is my first “unnatural” color. I prefer “supernatural” color. It is atomic turquoise by manic panic. The lighting is wonky in this pic.
Observations thus far:
a) Manic Panic is making smaller tubs of dye for larger prices nowadays!
b) I have a lot of hair.
a/b) It will be cheaper to dye my hair this color than any other color!
c) People in Chicago are not as cultured as I thought. Ha!
d) I love inspiring people. Or just making them smile. Or laugh.
Favorite quotes:
“You look like a mermaid!”
“I love to see Irish spirit!”
“GOOD COLOR!” (insert Indian accent)
“I don’t want a daughter with blue hair!”

My favorite food lately is tilapia tacos!
Super light and easy to make.
Marinade tilapia as long as you want in olive oil, lemon, chili powder and cumin. Add cayenne for a spicy kick!
Fry up the tilapia using olive oil in a non stick pan.
Put it in a bowl and break it apart with a fork.
Mix in the Tabouleh salad (its just parsley, tomatos, couscous, red onion, teeny bit of garlic)
I use corn tortillas.
Spread Baba Ghannouj on the tortilla (it is like hummus, a little more lemony)
Add fish mixture.
Drizzle with sour cream.
